Stigmata .44

Swing Blade

As director and producer, Nicholas recently had the pleasure of interviewing Alan Cumming, Vincent D'Onofrio, Paul Schrader, David Strathairn, Jane Alexander, Tyne Daly, and David Frankel, among others, for Warner Brothers special edition DVD box-set documentaries, and Marcia Gay Harden for Fog City Mavericks, the feature documentary film written & directed by Gary Leva about San Francisco filmmakers Clint Eastwood, George Lucas, Francis Coppola and many others.

Goodman’s career began in New York City editing documentary films for National Geographic Explorer. He went on to edit the award-winning one-hour documentary, Japan Reaches for the 21st Century for PBS, Hurricane for the National Weather Service, and a tribute to Ambassador Abba Eban for the United Nations.

In 1997 he landed in Hollywood with development deals at Paramount Pictures, Spyglass Entertainment, and Chartoff Productions. His film Swing Blade, a short parody of the hit films Sling Blade and Swingers, became a cult smash on the Hollywood underground and went on to air on Bravo, Encore Movies, and Britain’s Film Four. Swing Blade can also be seen on Miramax Films Swingers Collector’s Edition DVD, and it was released theatrically by Rhino Films as a mock trailer for the feature film parody, Plump Fiction, garnering smash reviews from the Los Angeles Times, Austin Chronicle, TV Guide and People magazine.

Goodman’s award-winning dramatic film, Stigmata .44 had its television premiere on KQED, San Francisco, with subsequent airings on WTTW, Chicago and KPBS, San Diego. The topical film about children and guns has screened to enthusiastic audiences worldwide at the Edinburgh, East Hampton, Taos Talking Pictures, Breckenridge and Florida film festivals. Goodman’s other directing credits include a special shoot for the feature documentary, Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy, the segment Boy’s Best Friend for the reality show Courage on Fox, and commercials for Jacoby & Meyers. Nick also continues to edit, having cut commercials for Toyota and theatrical trailers for films such as The Hoax, 1408, Sin City, Minority Report, Planet of the Apes, and Star Wars: Episode 2 Attack of the Clones.

Small Wonder is Goodman’s first feature-length documentary film.
